Which level to choose

“Recommended” works almost always: the document stays readable and gets noticeably lighter. “Strong” is for when the smallest size matters, for example a portal with a strict limit. “Light” keeps print quality.

If the file didn’t get smaller

Text-only files without images are often already optimal. In that case the service returns the original file and tells you so.

FAQ

How much smaller will the file get?

It depends on the content. Scans and photos usually shrink several times over; text-only files barely shrink because they’re already optimal.

Which level should I choose for court?

“Light” — it keeps images at about 300 dpi. Court filing rules require scans at 200–300 dpi, while “Recommended” lowers resolution to about 150 dpi and “Strong” to 72 dpi. Use them only if the file won’t fit within 30 MB otherwise, and check readability.

Will text remain text?

Yes, images and fonts are compressed; you can still select and copy the text.

Why did the service return the same file?

If compression didn’t reduce the size, the service returns the original file so as not to lower the quality for nothing.
